Founded
in 1995 by Dr. Sundar Ram Shetty, Globe Eye Foundation is
a registered charitable and nonprofit organization with nine
trustees. It has been delivering eye care services through
its Eye Hospital at Hoskote (A Rural Town near Bangalore)
since 1996. The people of Kolar, Bangalore rural and urban
districts are covered by this Hospital. More than 80% of the
service is going free to the needy poor from this area. So
far, there are over one lakh beneficiaries and out of that
25 thousand had free sight restoring operation. Considering
the huge demand, this is a small splash in the ocean. To enhance
the existing services and to extend the service to other major
causes of blindness, Globe Eye Foundation has built a new
hospital at Hoskote. The Honorable Health Minister of Karnataka
commissioned it in February 2005.
New G E F Eye Hospital
Twenty six km from Bangalore, GEF Eye Hospital is located
along the Old Madras Road (NH4), has easy accessibility. It
has a built up area of 14000 sq ft with free- service section,
complete with OPD, OT, Ward and Canteen and a good paying
section. The hospital has an excellent team of dedicated Ophthalmologists
and staff. Though, at present the hospital is taking the support
of Govt. and other NGOs and Individuals to fund the free service,
in the coming years it will be able to meet the cost of free
service through its paying section. Presently the hospital
is running with minimum of equipment and is in urgent need
of some to expand the service.
