Ophthalmology is a fast advancing specialty, and there is a need to upgrade skills continuously. To address this need, the Hospital has introduced training programs for aspiring Ophthalmologists in General Ophthalmology and Small Incision Cataract surgery. Over 60 Ophthalmologists are already trained under this program

There is an urgent need to train a good number of ophthalmic assistants who provide the basic needs of the eye care services. In view of this need, the GEF has opened a School for Optometry in its premises, which provides a 2-year course leading to a Diploma in Optometry which is recognised by the government of Karnataka. About 20 persons will be trained each year.
