Hospital’s major thrust is in the area of cataract blindness.
The three districts around this hospital are covered through
regular eye camps, where patients are examined and the deserving
patients are brought to the hospital for surgery. These patients
are given free transport, food and medicines. Suture-less
Small Incision Cataract operations are done free, with IOL
implantation. They are returned to their homes one day after
the surgery and followed up for six weeks. In a month, eight
to ten such camps are held and about 2000 patients get examined
and about 300-400 patients get operated.
Paid Service
The hospital has a very good paid section. Apart from General
Ophthalmic Clinic, there are specialty clinics in Retina,
Glaucoma and Contact Lens. In addition to Phaco- emulsification
for cataract, the hospital has competence for glaucoma, squint,
oculoplasty and lacrimal sac surgeries. The service is comparable
to the best in the city, and yet, the charges are grossly
subsidized.
