3 Carry out ophthalmic investigations

4 Understand common eye diseases and treatment modalities

5 Acquire knowledge about referral guidelines for ocular and systemic conditions

6 Correct refractive errors and provide spectacle prescriptions

7 Fit, evaluate, prescribe and dispense contact lenses

8 Assess low vision and provide comprehensive low vision care

9 Complete binocular vision assessment and manage non-strabismic anomalies

10 Assess visual demands for various occupations and advise on eye safety

11 Early detection of Refractive error, Strabismus, Cataract, Diabetic retinopathy, Glaucoma

12 Knowledge on eye bank organisation and preservation of ocular tissues

13 Counselling on visual/ocular hygiene, nutrition and environmental modifications

Post-Graduation

Independent Practice

Work independently or in conjunction with other eye/health care professionals in hospitals (private and public sectors), optical outlets or as an independent practitioner.

Clinical Excellence

Knowledgeable, skilful and analytical in diagnosis, treatment planning, management of visual defects & impairments and co-management of ocular conditions.

Community Outreach

Undertake public health projects, vision screening eye camps in schools, colleges, urban slums, rural areas and practice occupational optometry in industries.

Statutory Registration

The course leads to a basic degree considered the minimum essential for statutory registration of optometrists in countries where optometry is under legislation.
