OUR NETWORK OF SUPPORTERS AND WELL-WISHERS

service

Two decades ago, Globe Eye Foundation (GEF) was established thanks to the generosity of our vast network of well-wishers who have supported all our endeavours as we have grown from one man’s idea to a real movement that has changed lives and saved sight for lakhs. In keeping up with our organizational philosophy, we maintain a business model of 70-30 which translates to 70% charitable patients vs. 30% paying patients. This model helps GEF to maintain sustainable operations and to keep updating its infrastructure. The support of our collaborators and donors provides us the impetus for growth. Now as we move ahead with our plans to set up rural Vision Centres for eye care, our friends and supporters stand beside us to encourage us and help spread the gift of sight. We are grateful for this support and proud to have lived up to the expectations of all our well-wishers who have enabled us with their generosity and encouraged us with their support. Over the years, many individual donors, NGOs, Charitable bodies and Government agencies have come to our aid, time and again. They have volunteered their resources, expertise, influence and knowledge..

  • GEF Eye Hospitals is a charitable institution and a Non-Governmental organization. The eye care provided in the GEF Eye Hospitals and through the Vision Centres is not possible without the contribution of Supporters, Collaborators, Philanthropists and well meaning Donors.
  • There are many organizations which have generously donated to the cause of Eye Care and let their support to GEF over the years. We would like to acknowledge their contributions.

Recently the building of CPBT Charitable Medical centre was inaugurated, which also has an eye care section.

In July 2009, the CPBT and the GEF agreed to work together towards the goal of providing the best of eye care services to the community. The hospital at Hosakote was subsequently named as the GEF Eye Hospital and Bothra Institute of Community Ophthalmology.

Year on year they have sponsored Cataract camps and Cataract Surgeries, purchase of equipment, devices, etc. Several matching grants with Rotary International were initiated and important equipments such as the Iridex Oculight 532 NM Wave length Laser and KOWA Fundus Camera, both for the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy and other Retinal diseases were procured. A colour fundus screening machine and autorefractometer have also been donated by Rotary Bangalore Indira Nagar. They have also supported a large number of eye surgeries year after year.

In the year 2015, Rotary Bangalore, Indira Nagar and GEF jointly initiated the setting up of a new hospital in the city of Kolar. This hospital was named 'GEF Nethradeep Eye Hospital' and it has now become a major eye care initiative in the district of Kolar. Set up with an initial budget of 125 Lakh Rupees, the hospital has a well equipped Out Patient Department with diagnostic equipment and also a modern operating theatre with operating microscopes. The continuous support from Rotary Bangalore Indira Nagar and its members is a great source of strength to GEF in our endeavour to set up a network of tertiary, secondary and primary Vision Centres for delivering quality eye care throughout Karnataka. We would like to acknowledge the support and contribution made by other Rotary Clubs who have sponsored the purchase of vision screening equipment, a field analyzer and transportation equipment for running mobile clinics.

At GEF, we have partnered with Sri Chandanmal Pukhraj Bothra Trust to establish an Educational and Training Centre to extend our expertise in Ophthalmology and Optometry to the larger ophthalmic community. This educational unit of GEF is known as the Bothra Institute of Community Ophthalmology, which offers courses, diplomas and training at many different levels. While training ophthalmologists in various specialties also intend to help young men and women from Hosakote to enter a new vocation as Optometrists. We already have batches of Optometrists under training.

    We offer the following:

    • Long term fellowships in comprehensive and Small Incision Cataract Surgery ( SICS )
    • Short term training in Phaco emulsification and Small Incision Cataract Surgery ( SICS )
    • 2 and 3 years courses for Diploma in Ophthalmic Technology (DOT)

Over 138 Ophthalmologists from across India and the world have trained with us so far. All our Trainees have to compulsorily participate in our charitable outreach programmes which is an excellent way to begin the career they aspire to pursue.

    IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS

As on date in 2019, GEF has treated over *** lakh patients and performed over *** surgeries, both free and paid. Our outreach programmes extend across four of Karnataka’s largest districts. Our relentless battle against blindness, with awareness programs and eye care camps and eye donation camps have already actively prevented over tens of thousands of cases of blindness in Karnataka. In the near future, we plan to extend our services through our Vision Centres in every taluk to help identify and treat many different eye diseases among Karnataka’s rural population while facilitating safe and secure eye collection practices from donors.
