GEF Eye Hospital, Hoskote

GEF Eye Hospital, Hosakote is the flagship centre of Globe Eye Foundation and the hub of all its charitable and clinical activities. Established in the early 2000s with the generous support of the Department of Ophthalmology, Ministry of Health, Government of India, the hospital was built to bring tertiary-level eye care to the rural and semi-urban populations of Hosakote and the surrounding taluks of Bangalore Rural district.

The hospital is fully equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical infrastructure, including a modern Operating Theatre with operating microscopes, a dedicated Out Patient Department, and specialised clinics for Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, and Paediatric Ophthalmology. The Iridex Oculight 532 NM laser and KOWA Fundus Camera — donated through matching grants with Rotary International — enable the hospital to manage complex conditions such as Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal diseases.

The hospital also houses the Bothra Institute of Community Ophthalmology (BICO), GEF's dedicated training wing established in partnership with Sri Chandanmal Pukhraj Bothra Trust. BICO offers fellowships, short-term courses, and the two- and three-year Diploma in Ophthalmic Technology (DOT), and has trained over 138 ophthalmologists from across India and abroad.

As part of GEF's 70–30 charitable model, the Hosakote hospital provides 70% of its services free or at highly subsidised rates to underprivileged patients, funded by the 30% paying patients and grants from the District Blindness Control Society (DBCS). Regular cataract camps, school eye-screening drives, and mobile outreach clinics extend the hospital's reach into the villages of the district.
